Participatory Reforestation
Statkraft Chile together with the Indigenous Community Catrihuala are developing a reforestation plan which includes the knowledge and ancestral techniques of the communities in the reforestation process with native species.
Objectives
The reforestation agreement between the Indigenous Community Catrihuala and Statkraft Chile allows the fulfilment of part of the environmental agreements established in the Resolution of Environmental Qualification (RCA) of Los Lagos hydropower plant project.
By means of the collaborative work, this good practice takes advantage of the knowledge and ancestral techniques of the community in the reforestation process with native species: land preparation, plantation, follow-up, and maintenance.
This participatory action generates reliable, transparent and objective information of the reforestation that allows the fulfilment of the requirements of the Forestry Management Plan approved by CONAF.
Where is this being developed?
Huellelhue area in the commune of Rio Negro, Province of Osorno, where 2,384 native trees will be planted. The expectation is to assure 75% of rooting and reposition of plants.
