The power plant uses a height of fall of 147 metres from the regulating reservoir Lake Selbusjøen.
Bratsberg power plant is a parallel development to the six other power stations on the Nid River. Water is drawn directly from Lake Selbusjøen and transported in a 16-kilometre-long diversion tunnel through the power station to the outlet below Nedre Leirfoss. The tunnel has a cross section of 60 square metres. The height of fall of 147 metres is the sum of all the waterfalls and rapids in the Nid River.
The power plant is equipped with two Francis turbines.
