Statkraft acquires wind power projects in Chile
Statkraft has recently acquired three wind power projects in Chile with a planned installed capacity of 110 MW in total. The acquisition gives Statkraft an opportunity to take advantage of the great wind power potential in the area and grow its renewable energy portfolio in Chile.
The acquired projects are Cardonal (30 MW), Manantiales (28 MW) and Cerrillos (52 MW), all located in the municipality of Litueche, in the Region of the General Liberator Bernardo O'Higgins.
Each project has its Environmental Qualification Resolutions (RCA) approved, and Statkraft will now develop the projects towards investment decisions and possible completion in 2022. The total investment cost for the three projects are estimated to USD 180 million.
In total, the three projects will have an average annual generation of approximately 300 GWh, equivalent to the consumption of more than 100,000 houses.
In Chile, Statkraft has a joint venture together with Pacific Hydro which owns and operates the two hydropower plants La Higuera (155 MW) and La Confluencia (163 MW). Statkraft also owns and operates the Rucatayo (55 MW) hydropower plant on the Pilmaiquen river. Recently, Statkraft started construction of the Los Lagos (52 MW) hydropower plant on the same river.
