The power plant uses a height of fall of 610 metres from Lake Nedre Bersåvatn, which is the regulating reservoir for the plant. Lake Øvre Bersåvatn and Lake Vendevatn are also regulated as reservoirs.
The power plant was commissioned in 1956 and was upgraded in 1978. The power plant has two Pelton turbines that together produce 30 MW. After producing power in Mågeli power plant, the water is pumped up into Lake Ringedalsvannet using pumps at Skjeggedal pumping station.
