Statkraft boosts renewable energy supplies to Chilean Agrosuper
Statkraft Chile has entered into an agreement with Chilean food producer Agrosuper increasing the share of renewable energy in their energy mix to 50%.
Under the agreement, Statkraft Chile will deliver 216 GWh renewable energy per year to fifteen different Agrosuper supply points throughout Chile until 2028. The agreement comes in addition to a previously signed contract for 95 GWh/year until 2028.
With these agreements, Statkraft Chile is now providing 50% of Agrosuper’s energy requirement with renewable energy.
“This is a very relevant agreement because it reflects the decision that many clients have made to use energy from renewable sources in their processes. At Statkraft we are taking advantage of the possibilities that arise in the market and the fact that we generate renewable energy from hydropower. Our offering reflects the commitment that we share with our clients and the added value from having energy without emissions in their processes,” said Managing Director of Statkraft Chile, María Teresa González.

“We are constantly searching for solutions and technologies that allow us to be even more efficient with the aim of reducing our environmental footprint. At Agrosuper we have a permanent commitment to caring for the environment and we are constantly innovating and implementing new technologies that contribute to the sustainable development of the regions where we have production facilities and our country," said Alejandro Montes, corporate manager of Acquisitions at Agrosuper, the largest producer of animal protein in Chile.
Recently, Statkraft Chile has also signed new power purchase agreements with animal nutrition and aquaculture food producer Nutreco as well as cold storage provider Icestar. While the Nutreco agreement comprises 33 GWh/year for four years and 9 months, the Icestar agreement comprises 12 GWh/year for four years. Both deliveries start in April 2021.
The new contracts increases the level of coverage and provide strong support to Statkraft’s new projects in Chile.
