Early-stage offshore wind projects in Sweden
Statkraft acquired nine early-stage offshore wind development projects in Sweden in 2023.
Sweden is a developer-led market and Statkraft has identified ten areas for nine projects in Swedish waters that are well suited for offshore wind development. These early-stage development projects are located on the west, south, east, and northeast coasts and are suitable for bottom-fixed as well as floating offshore wind.
Of the nine projects, Beta is the most mature. The proposed project, located in the southern regions of the Baltic Sea, is expected to be fully operational by 2030. A permit application was submitted to Swedish authorities in June 2023.
Early-stage projects
Alpha
Alpha is a proposed offshore wind farm of up to 2 GW on the east coast of Sweden. The wind farm is projected to have up to 140 turbines with a mix of bottom-fixed and floating foundations depending on the water depths.

Beta
The proposed 2.5 GW Beta offshore wind farm is in the south Baltic Sea. The bottom-fixed wind farm may consist of up to 127 turbines and have an expected production of up to 10.5 TWh, equal to seven percent of Sweden's current energy consumption. A permit application was submitted to the Swedish authorities on 2 June 2023.

Delta North & Delta South
The two areas that form the proposed 5 GW Delta offshore wind farm are in the Baltic Sea, 100 km east of Stockholm and 55 km from Sandhamn. The bottom-fixed wind farm may consist of up to 300 turbines with a production of up to 20 TWh per year, enough to power the equivalent of 3.2 million Swedish households.

Epsilon
The proposed Epsilon offshore wind farm is an up-to 3 GW area to the southeast of Stockholm and south of Delta with the possibility of up to 184 primarily floating turbines, with an option for deep bottom-fixed foundations in parts of the area. The proposed wind farm has the capacity to produce up to 12 TWh per annum, equivalent to the energy needs of 2 million Swedish households.
