Utsira Nord
Statkraft has teamed up with Mainstream Renewable Power (Aker) and Ocean Winds to consider a bid for the development rights to a floating offshore wind facility at Utsira Nord off the west coast of Norway.
Utsira Nord was opened for renewable energy production in 2020. Arrangements are now being made to grant a licence for the development of 1500 MW of offshore capacity west of the island municipality of Utsira in Rogaland County.
The Utsira Nord offshore field is close to land and will be connected to the onshore power grid in Norway. The average depth in the area is 265 metres, so the only suitable solution is floating offshore wind.
The Norwegian government has decided to tender Utsira Nord in 2024, and licences will be awarded according to qualitative criteria.
With their combined expertise and experience, Statkraft and its partners are well equipped to develop a robust, cost-effective and sustainable energy system based on floating offshore wind power at Utsira Nord. This can also open the Norwegian supply chain to global opportunities.
